New air-powered car looks WEIRD

http://green.yahoo.com/blog/ecogeek/790/new-air-powered-car-looks-weird.html

The car will be powered by MDI's compressed-air system, which uses electricity to compress huge amounts of air in small tanks. The air is then slowly released from the tanks, driving pistons that move the car. This system is hopefully going into American cars by 2010, and was licensed by Tata Motors for use in India and Europe. The AirPod seats three (one facing backward) and the "playful and futuristic" design. The top speed of the thing is just over 40 miles per hour and it has a range of only 130 miles before a refill is needed, so obviously it will be just for city use.Refilling an air car can be extremely quickor quite slowEven if the power used to compress the air is pure-coal-fired power, these things are way cleaner than gasoline, and even cleaner than electric vehicles.

Making your heating system more efficient

http://green.yahoo.com/blog/amorylovins/15/heating-your-home-efficiently.html;_ylt=AlFb8_hEPZupkClRII29h5CtV8cX

  • If you don't have one already, consider installing a programmable thermostat. These cost around $30-100 and allow you to preset a heating and cooling schedule that maintains a comfortable temperature when you're home, but lightens the load when you're not. Energy Star rates many such thermostats.
  • If you have a furnace, seal your system's ducts with mastic and insulate hot-air ducts that pass through unheated spaces with fiberglass. Leaky ducts can decrease a furnace's efficiency by 20-30 percent.
  • Most new boilers and furnaces come equipped with an electronic ignition for your pilot light. If your furnace or boiler doesn't have one (and you can turn your pilot light on and off safely), consider turning your pilot light off during the summer months when your heater's off.

Simple tips to green your kitchen

http://green.yahoo.com/blog/amorylovins/39/simple-tips-to-green-your-kitchen.html

Oven

  • Don't open the oven door to check on a dish — use the oven light instead (20 percent of the heat can be lost each time you open the oven door).
  • Keep preheating to a minimum.
  • Turn the oven off before cooking is complete (depending on the dish, up to 15 minutes). The heat in the oven will continue to cook the dish until finished.
  • If you need to self-clean the oven, plan to do it after cooking a meal while the oven is already hot, requiring less energy to raise the temperature to a higher level.

Stovetop

  • Match the pan size to the element size.
  • Use the least amount of water and the smallest size pan possible. Otherwise you're wasting energy to heat up excess metal or excess water.

Refrigerator

  • Let hot foods cool to room temperature before putting them in the fridge. Otherwise the fridge works even harder to bring the temperature down.
  • Keep the freezer full. The more air you displace with food and beverages, the less cold air you lose when you open the freezer door.

Dishwasher

  • Run the dishwasher when full; it requires the same amount of energy for a full load as it does for a half load.
  • Use the "no heat" drying option.
  • Don't wash dishes twice. Although it depends upon the age of your dishwasher, most dishwashers can get your dishes clean without rinsing them first by hand.

Other appliances

  • Plug countertop appliances into a power strip that can be turned off after use, saving the energy that would be used by the appliances when in "standby mode." (Depending upon how often you use your microwave, the microwave's digital clock could use more energy than the microwave oven itself.)
  • You can also simply unplug appliances when you're done using them.

Five tips for a green staycation

http://green.yahoo.com/blog/greenpicks/178/five-tips-for-a-green-staycation.html;_ylt=AqdUPZ.E5hxN.zGiFZvAdHatV8cX

  • Camp in a county, state, or national park or forest.
  • Make a 100-mile dinner. Become a locovore and discover foods grown and produced within 100 miles of your home
  • Build a better bird habitat in your backyard
  • Volunteer with a local environmental organization. Help plant trees, clean up a shoreline, tend an urban garden, clear mountain trails -- do something that appeals to your interests
  • Get up close with flowers, birds, and bugs by taking photos.

Keeping cool indoors

http://green.yahoo.com/blog/greenpicks/184/keeping-cool-indoors.html

If you do have AC, eHow reminds you to check the unit's filters. Clean filters keep the machines running more efficiently, which will save money. Also, use the dehumidifier option instead of cranking down the temp as less-humid air feels more comfortable. Finally, TreeHugger recommends we turn off the lights and electronics, take a cool shower, and then eat some organic ice cream. Nice advice!

Bloom Energy prepares its mysterious device

http://green.yahoo.com/blog/ecogeek/785/bloom-energy-prepares-its-mysterious-device.html

A recent story in The New York Times discusses Bloom at length, and says that they're looking at commercialization within one or two years. That's good for investors, who've already dumped $250 million into Bloom. But we still have to wonder what Bloom is doing that requires 200 employees and all that cash.Bloom Energy wants your house to be a power plant. They want the natural gas line to go straight into their ultra-efficient fuel cell, and then that fuel cell will provide exactly the amount of power you need. loom's fuel cells are nearly twice as efficient as natural gas peaking plants, and have 40% of the emissions, the little box would do more than save the environment; it would save you a lot of money.

And then your father
Cause who used to hold you
And clean you and clothes you
Who used to feed you?
And always be with you
When you were sick
Stay up all night
Holding you tight
That?s right no other

Who should I take good care of?
Giving all my love
Who should I think most of?
After Allah

Comes your mother
Who next? Your mother

And then your father
Cause who used to hear you
Before you could talk
Who used to hold you?
Before you could walk
And when you fell who picked you up
Clean your cut
No one but your mother
My mother

Who should I say why close to?
Listen most to
Never say no to
After Allah
And Rasulullah
Comes your mother
Who next? Your mother

And then your father
Cause who used to hug you
And buy you new clothes
Calm your head
And blow your nose
And when you cry
Who wiped your tears?
Knows your fears
Who really cares?
My mother

Say Alhamdulillah
Thank you Allah

For my mother.
